Thames Tideway Strategic Study – Steering Group Report 2005

February 14, 2005

The Thames Tideway Strategic Study investigated the environmental impact of wet weather discharges from 57 Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) and found that some discharge storm water and sewage into the River Thames on average once a week. These discharges cause offensive conditions in the river and on the foreshore, result in an elevated health risk to river users, damage the ecology of
the river and occasionally kill large numbers of fish.
